The Asia Series Team

In 2020, the "Asia series" was developed by a new team of students. The books, Orangutans and Tigers were developed with help from researchers in Siberia and Indonesia, and with help from the Indianapolis Zoo and Black Pine Animal Sanctuary.

Meet our team who helped create the books!

Tom J. McConnell & Barbara Giorgio-Booher served as author and art director on each of the Conservation Tales books.

Picture
Alicia Braun is a Visual Communications major at Ball State University. This is her second book as a graphic designer, her first being, Elephants. She loves what this project does for all animals.

Emma Fulkerson is studying animation, with a minor in screen writing. Emma illustrated the Elephants book in 2019, and is drawing animals for the Tiger book in the 2020 series.

Sarah Jarvis splits her duties on Conservation Tales as an illustrator and a graphic designer. She contributes backgrounds and accent images for Orangutans, and has created promotional and educational materials for our outreach programs.

Picture
Abbey Jessup is a sophomore at Ball State studying photography. Her photos contribute to both the Tigers and Orangutans books, and she edited other images seen in the books. In the future, she hopes to be a wildlife and conservation photographer, or a pet portrait photographer.

Picture
Sydney Johnson is a student in the Animation program at Ball State. She has developed scenery and backgrounds for the Tiger book.

Picture
Sam Luginbuhl is a Biology major, specializing in Conservation Wildlife biology. She brings experience as an artist and has been important in helping us research the science practices of our content consultants. Sam is currently a Biological Sciences Technician at the Padre Island National Seashore.

Picture
Jim Melton studies Animation, with an minor in Anthropology. Jim returns to illustrate characters in the Orangutan book after working on Giraffes  in 2019.

Picture
Alyssa Merkel is a student in the Visual Communications program, and is the designer for Conservation Tales: Tigers. She also served as the photographer for the Africa Series in 2019. She is the first team member to fill two different roles on the team in different years!

Picture
Tobi Morris majors in Animation at Ball State, and specializes in digital painting to create characters. Tobi is the character developer for Tigers.

Picture
Andie Reidy studies Natural Resources at Ball State, and is the co-author of Tigers. Andie's artistic skills show up in the book, as well, with drawings used to accent the story. Her science background was essential in researching the processes used by the tiger researchers depicted in the book.

Picture
Amber Turner is a senior studying Animation. She has spent time at zoos drawing animals, so her experience sketching animals made her a natural fit to draw orangutans.
